As part of its environment education campaign, the SEW Foundation in collaboration with the Society for Environment Education (SEE) has taken up several programs to reach out to professional and degree colleges, conducting elocution, essay writing and painting competitions, and seminars among others, to bring out the talent inherent in students.

The SEW Foundation, a not-for-profit service organization and the CSR arm of SEW Infrastructure, believes promotion of environment education programs and campaigns will help motivate students take up field level environment projects and adopt a sustainable lifestyle. As part of its endeavours, it also lends assistance to the monthly magazine Environment and People that is being published since 1994 by the Society for Environment and Education for giving students and youngsters that extra bit of knowledge beyond what is covered by their syllabus.

On the occasion of  World Environment Day-2012, both the organizations jointly conducted a competition wherein under-graduate and post-graduate level students of professional and degree colleges submitted papers on the topic, Green Economy - What India should do? The response from the students exceeded expectations as in spite of vacations, 91 from nearly 30 colleges participated. The principals and faculty members of the colleges played an important role in this two-month long effort of the foundation.

About 100 papers were sent and the jury comprising eminent professors have selected the best of the lot. The first prize went to Ms Vangapalli Ramya Krishna, Osmania University College for Women, the second to Ms Polavarapu Sai Sravya, VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology and the third to Mr MS Prasanth, Acharya Nagarjuna University College of Engineering and Technology.

The prize distribution function is being organized at 11 a.m on June 29 at the auditorium of the SEW Infrastructure building, opposite Country Club, Begumpet. Famous environmentalists CS Ramalakshmi, IFS, Dr K Purushotham Reddy, Dr V. Himabindu and Dr P Narayan Rao are going to grace the occasion. The New Indian Express has joined hands with SEW Foundation as its media partner for the event.

This program will highlight the importance of sustainable development in our country. It is expected that the students/youth/ attending the function will be motivated to take up Green Economy related activities.
