Now, assess property tax e-way!

S Bachan Jeet Singh

House owners in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits who want to assess their property tax without any hassels can now do it the e-way.

For the first time, GHMC is planning to introduce an e-registration system for assessing property tax. The system will be launched this week on the lines of trade licences that were introduced recently.

There are over a lakh properties in GHMC limits that are yet to be covered under the net of property tax. And though a large number of house owners, tenants, lessees and others want to assess their property tax, they refrain from doing so fearing the red-tapism of bill collectors and other officials. Even the ones who want to convert their buildings from residential to commercial category do not come forward to get their property assessed.

What is the Procedure?

Speaking to Express, Ashok Reddy said that an application form would be hosted on the GHMC website in a few days for e-registration. Owners / tenants will have to fill information such as circle number, locality name, door number, address for correspondence, mobile number and others as required under section 213 of GHMC Act 1955.

The GHMC will then download the assessment details and a team, from either the head office or zonal level, will inspect the house and verify the details provided by the owners. If things are found in order, the officials will generate a Property Tax Identification Number (PTIN) for paying the tax.
