Two workers were killed as two explosions occurred at the premises of Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd, formerly IDL Industries, at Kukatpally here tonight, police said.

The deceased were identified as Arjun (59) and Prasad (29).

"No one else was injured as others had left for dinner. How the blasts occurred is being probed," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Madhapur Zone) T Yoganand told PTI.

The Hinduja group-owned Gulf Oil India was merged with Hyderabad-based IDL Industries (engaged in manufacturing of commercial explosives) in 2002. IDL Industries was later renamed as Gulf Oil Corporation Limited.

A powerful blast at IDL's fuse wire manufacturing unit killed nine workers in November 25, 2003.

Meanwhile, Subhash Pramanik, MD, Gulf Oil said in a late-night statement that two workers died at the Gulf Oil IDL factory in the finishing unit of the detonating section but there was no explosion.

"There has been no explosion or fire at the site and the team is currently investigating the reasons for the accident. We will keep you posted about the cause and our actions once the investigation is over," Pramanik said.
