Express News Service

Cantonment MLA P Shanker Rao appeared before the Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Friday in connection with the Greenfield case.

Shanker Rao has deposited his passport with the CID officials as per court directions. With the passport date expiring a few days ago, the officials directed the MLA to deposit his renewed passport.

Granting anticipatory bail to Shanker Rao in the Greenfield case, the first Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court had directed him to deposit his passport with the CID officials. The court also directed Shanker Rao to surrender before the CID officials on or before May 2.

The case relates to a complaint by residents of Greenfields Colony in Kanajiguda village, Alwal Municipality that Shankar Rao and his brother Dayanand were claiming ownership of 875 plots on the basis of fake documents.

In October 2011, a petition was filed by one S Chandrasekhar of the Greenfields Plot Owners Association alleging that Shanker Rao misused his position as a minister to grab 72 acres in Kanajiguda village in Malkajgiri mandal by forging documents that claimed to show that the land belonged to his father Yedla Achaiah.

Cases were filed against the MLA under sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 197(issuing false certificate), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for cheating), 471 (using forged document) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
