The AP High Court on Tuesday admitted a petition challenging the appointment of Dr L Narendranath as director of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

Justice Noushad Ali was dealing with a writ petition by Dr G Hanumandlu, retired civil surgeon of the city, seeking directions to the president of NIMS to appoint him to the director’s post.

The petitioner contended that the appointment of Dr Narendranath is in contravention of Rule 3 of the Minimum Qualification for the Teachers in Medical Institutions Regulations, 1988 and occupying the post of director of NIMS without qualification is illegal.
