CID gets state-of-the-art office building

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) will now operate from its new swanky office in Lakdi-ka-Pul. The CID, which probes major offences under its purview, has moved to a three-storeyed complex constructed at a cost of `11.5 crore.

The new facility was inaugurated by chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Monday. Till now, the CID functioned from the DGP’s office.

The state-of-the-art office will have a separate cell to monitor the functioning of CID officials in all district headquarters, which will be help detect economic offences and cyber crime among others.

According to additional DGP, CID, T Krishna Prasad, a CID journal is being brought about for the benefit and reference of police officers. The journal will have three sections--legal, case studies and professional articles--which will help police officials in the investigation of various cases.

The new building will accommodate CID administration, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), and Protection of Civil Rights (PCR), Telangana, Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema zones. The other wings like State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB), Finger Prints Bureau, Women Protection Cell and Cyber Crime wing will continue to function from different buildings. “There is a proposal to add four more floors to the new building at a cost of `14 crore,” Krishna Prasad said.

HoD Status: A proposal has been sent to the government for according head of department (HoD) status to the CID chief in financial matters. heads of Intelligence, Greyhounds and Octopus units, and AP Police Academy already have the financial HoD status.

With DSP and inspector rank officers preferring to be in law and order, rather than work for the CID, a proposal has been sent to the authorities concerned for 30 percent incentive on basic pay to CID officers, as is being done in Karnataka.

Director general of police (DGP) V Dinesh Reddy, Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissioners Anurag Sharma and CV Anand respectively were among the officials present at the inauguration of the office building.
