The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has pressed eight emergency teams to meet tackle any emergency situation arising out of the continuous heavy rains that have been lashing the city for the past few days, new GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar has said.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has pressed eight emergency teams to meet tackle any emergency situation arising out of the continuous heavy rains that have been lashing the city for the past few days, new GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar has said.

Kumar, along with city mayor M Majid Hussain and officials, inspected  Hussainsagar Lake which reached the full tank level on Friday.

People living in low-lying areas of nine colonies _ Sabarmathi Nagar, Motinagar, Datta Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Arundhati Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Shivanand Nagar, Ratna Nagar and Arvind Nagar _ were advised to shift to nearby identified community halls in case of emergency.

The mayor appealed to the citizens not to panic and assured them that the corporation was taking steps to meet the  situation.

The commissioner sked officials in all the zones to be available on wireless sets.
