Would You Do Voga?

Express News Service

With Zumba being termed “the mom jeans of the fitness world”, it is Voga which has become the new trending pop culture fitness oddity at present. It is a combination of yoga and vogueing which was the 80s drag scene dance craze introduced by Madonna. The energetic workout uses elements of flexibility, breath synchronisation of yoga and expressive moves of dance to burn calories.

The workout was created by Juliet Murrell, a former art director and trained yoga instructor who wanted to create a cardiac workout combined with yoga. The dramatic and expressive poses, the slick and angular aspect in vogueing resemble the physical alignment of yoga.

Using 80’s music to jumpstart an otherwise snooze worthy yoga session, the one hour session conducted in a nightclub during the day does what it has been designed to do i.e., burn the calories. Although the otherwise fun workout leaves one feeling satisfied at the end of the session, the downside according to many is the lack of stretches that define a yoga session. A good stretch can prevent any muscle pulling and help in warming up and cooling down the body which sadly doesn’t happen here.

Currently Voga classes are available only in London but Murrell plans to expand her reach to different parts of the world in the near future.

In case you do find a video tutorial online, make sure follow it under professional supervision as you wouldn’t want to end up in a fix.
