AP Akademi's Science Congress from Tomorrow

Students will get an opportunity to interact with eminent scientists during the three-day event.

HYDERABAD : Scientists, researchers and children have something to look forward to as the Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences (APAS) is organising Golden Jubilee Science Congress at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology in association with the Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology  from November 13 to 15.

The three-day event will be inaugurated by governor ESL Narasimhan on Thursday.  Founding fellows and past presidents of the Akademi will be felicitated during the event. Life-time achievement awards will be given to eminent scientists such as Dr PM Bhargava, Dr VM Katoch, Dr R Chidambaram, Dr T Ramasami and Dr AV Rama Rao.

The Dr Nayudamma memorial gold medal, which is given away every year, will be presented to Dr D Balasubramanian, director (research) of LV Prasad Eye Institute.

“Since Children’s Day (November 14) falls during the Science Congress, children from both states have been invited and a number of events planned for them. Around 150 to 200 students of Classes IX and X are expected to attend,” CCMB director Mohan Rao told reporters here on Tuesday.

Special children’s science meet and a few fun-science activities will be organised on all the three days. “The students will get an opportunity to interact with eminent scientists and visit IICT, CCMB, NIN and NGRI,” he said.

There will also be a session on major breakthoughs and achievements in the science world.
