HYDERABAD: The snake gang members, involved in the recent gangrape of an 18-year-old girl, it turns out have been creating havoc at Erragunta, Jallepally and other localities in Pahadishareef. Mounted on horses, they would intimidate residents and if anyone dared object, they would thrash the man brutally in public.
These and other shocking details of their activities came to light Wednesday after around 420 policemen, led by Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand, conducted a massive search and cordon operation in the Old city - in a first of its kind hunt - to bring the gangsters to heel once and for all.
“Out of fear nobody complained against the snake gang members. We had to conduct the cordon and search operation in this area to instil confidence among the public,” Anand said.
In Shaheenagar area, the police found at least 35 history-sheeters. The area is the Faisal Dayyani gang’s hub. Faisal’s brothers, Hameed and Khaleel, were taken into custody on charges of showing cruelty to animals. Two horses and three vehicles - Scorpio, Honda Activa and a Vespa - were seized from their possession. The brothers couldn’t produce original documents of the vehicles, CV Anand said.
Among the arrested are Habeeb-ul-Rahaman (30), burka maker of Madina Colony, Errakunta, Shaik Abdulla (18) of Mohammednagar, Shaik Nayeem (21), Business, a resident of Ismail Nagar, Shaik Abud (18) and Syed Rahath Hussain (20) and Cable Network, a resident of Ismail Nagar, Bandlaguda.
Shamshabad DCP Ramesh Naidu, Additional DCP, Crime, G Janaki Sharmila, five ACPs, 50 Inspectors, 90 SIs and 90 women officers participated in the operation and almost every house in the area was searched.
