GHMC Proposes to Develop Parks in City

HYDERABAD: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation proposes to develop all the major parks one international standards in the coming days.

Presently it started developing Jalagam Vengal Rao Park. The park is situated at Road No.1, Banjara Hills which has been developed some years back in Anugu Kunta land in about 10 acres. The pond which is polluted would be cleaned and the park would be developed, GHMC special officer Somesh Kumar said here on Tuesday.

The park is being improved on the directions of irrigation minister T Harish Rao, who has recently visited the park. As per the directions of Harish Rao, Somesh Kumar along with senior engineering and biodiversity officials visited Jalagam Vengal Rao Park on Tuesday.

He said proposals for developing all major and medium parks in the GHMC limits were submitted to the state government and orders are awaited to take up the works. GHMC is also trying to curb encroachments in the parks.

It is also planning to take up 100 km green curtain along the footpaths. Out of the 100 km, 20 km have already been completed.

An amount of Rs 90 lakh is being spent to divert the polluted water from the park that include HMWS&SB’s share of Rs 65 lakh and another Rs 25 lakh from the GHMC funds.

GHMC is also planning to provide a colourful fountain in the park. The corporation has also taken up 50 biotoilets for the convenience of the citizens at various places and plans to take up more such bio-toilets across the twin cities. 

GHMC is planning to plant 50 lakh splings during monsoon season. A tree plantation drive has also been taken up in 960 graveyards and in open places, he added.
