HYDERABAD: Make sure you move in a group
The psychologist says the ideal way to keep yourself safe is by moving in a group. “The attackers look for women they can catch hold of easily. Therefore, it is advisable to move in a group,” she says. For the women who are forced to move alone in night, pepper spray is something they should carry with them. She advises women to travel in a car. “But those who have to travel by bike should not stop even if they spot a dead man on the road,” she says adding that many times, the attackers come up with innovative ways to trap their victims and this can be one ofthem.
Prefer bus to an auto
“If you are dependent on public transport, choose RTC Buses to autos as they are safer as they can find passengers in buses even at midnight. Whereas one has to travel alone in an auto which makes them vulnerable,” she says. If buses are not available, Jayanti advises women to take sharing autos once with at least one women traveling in it.
Ask for a drop
There are many women who work till late in the night. She advises them to ask their company to provide them with drop facility which will make travel safer.
Beware of surroundings
After observing a lot of women engrossed in playing games in their phones or talking to people while they commute, the doctor says, “It is important that women stay alert. Playing games or being engrossed in a conversation drifts them away from what they are doing. They should be aware of their surroundings. Be alert and trust your intuition.”
Be responsible
“Partying has become synonymous with alcohol. Though I would not advise them to stay away from drinking, I would say that they should make sure that they are in their senses,” she says.
