Work on ORR Viaduct at Ghatkesar Underway

Express News Service

HYDERABAD:With the Railways giving nod to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), construction of a viaduct  on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Ghatkesar, near here, has begun last week.

The 45-metre-long viaduct will be built over the road overbridge (ROB) above the railway line by Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), a wing of HMDA.

HMDA officials told Express that it would take at least three months to complete the work. After the construction, the remaining 12-km-long stretch from Keesara to Ghatkesar will become operational.

The total length of RoB is about 185 metres and HGCL has already laid approach roads to a length of 70 to 75 metres each on either side.

The Keesara-Ghatkesar ORR stretch had been completed a few months ago but could not be opened to traffic due to the pending work on the RoB at Ghatkesar. Already, the Railways had approved the General Arrangement Drawing (GAD) submitted by the HGCL.

Of the 158-km-long ORR, HGCL has laid the road for a length of nearly 135 km so far. The 12-km stretch between Keesara and Ghatkesar has been ready except for the RoB.

Work on the Shamirpet-Keesara stretch (10.30 km) is going at a brisk pace. The main carriageway will be opened to traffic by December or January, and laying of service roads on either side of the carriageway and other related works will be completed by April next.

A double trumpet interchange that was proposed at the Kandlakoya Junction near Medcahl could not be taken up due to cases pending in the Supreme Court.

Except for that 1-km-long stretch, the main carriageway of ORR will be opened to traffic by this year end or early next year.
