Remove Encroachments at Toli Masjid, HC Tells GHMC

Hyderabad HC directs the GHMC to remove illegal encroachments and structures from the land belonging to the historic Toli Masjid.

Express News Service

HYDERABAD:  A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court has directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to remove illegal encroachments and structures from the land belonging to the historic Toli Masjid in the city, in accordance with the law.

The bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice SV Bhatt was disposing of a public interest litigation filed by Mohammed Abdul Raoof, a resident of the city, challenging inaction of the GHMC and Wakf authorities in removing the encroachments.

The petitioner alleged that some influential persons occupied the land belonging to the Mosque and built three marriage function halls but the authorities had not taken any steps to remove these illegal structures, despite filing several complaints.

The bench directed the GHMC and Wakf authorities to look into the representation of the petitioner and conduct an enquiry. If they find unauthorised constructions, the authorities have to remove the same, it said.
