OV Vijayan Award for Usha Kumari

HYDERABAD: An award, instituted in memory of OV Vijayan, author of famous Malayalam book ‘Khasakkinte Ithihasam,’ was conferred on Usha Kumari, a Malayali writer, at the fifth OV Vijayan Sahitya Puraskaram function organised by Naveena Samskarika Kala Kendram (NSKK) at Balanagar here on Sunday.

“A trophy designed by famous sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman, a cash prize of Rs 50,001, and a citation were presented to Usha Kumari,” said EVipinan, secretary of NSKK.

The OV Vijayan memorial lecture was delivered by film director Kamal. Cultural programmes including a folklore dance and songs ‘Kathiratta Kalam’ were presented.

OV Vijayan, a renowned writer and cartoonist,  lived for close to a decade at Marredpally in Secunderabad. He passed away in March 2005.
