Overcast city skies and the chill in the air on Wednesday were reminiscent of nothing less than a hill station. All thanks to the impact of ‘very severe cyclone Vardah’ which made a landfall near Chennai on December 12 afternoon.
Hyderabad woke up to a cloudy sky on a drizzly morning as after effect of the cyclone forced people to stay mostly indoors. While the streets and by lanes of the city remained deserted thanks to the chill in the air, the only places that bustled with energy were ATMs and banks. People braved the rain and winds to go ahead with their monetary transactions.
According to the Met department, the dip in temperature is a passing affect of the cyclone. “The low in temperature will continue for another day,” said K Nagaratna, Head of Flood Meteorological Office, Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, youngsters got a chance to break away from their daily routine and take a stroll around Hussain Sagar. ‘Love Hyderabad’ at Tank Bund briefly became the selfie point.
However, the rainy day also brought back the horrors of the downpour that had reduced the city roads to rubble some two months ago. Apprehensive commuters said if the rain lasted through the day, the roads will be pockmarked with potholes turning them once again into death traps.
The chilly weather meanwhile added to the woes of roadside dwellers. With the sudden dip accompanied by rain, they were left with no option other than clutching tightly to the rags they use to cover themselves with.
