Express News Service

HYDERABAD:  A 40-year-old NRI software engineer, who harassed a woman doctor by sending abusive messages and pictures, was arrested by the cyber crime police of Central Crime Station (CCS) on Friday. Police also seized an iPhone and a laptop that were used in the commission of the offence.

The arrested techie is Narayanadas Ashok Kumar, working in the United Kingdom (UK) and hailing from Wanaparthy in Mahbubnagar district.

According to the police, Kumar’s parents fixed his marriage to a woman doctor who is a resident of Amberpet. After the alliance had been finalised, Ashok Kumar arrived in the city and expressed his willingness to  marry the girl chosen by his parents.

“After their parents decided to perform the marriage, the boy and the girl exchanged their mobile numbers and email IDs, and moved together closely for some time. Later, some differences arose between the two,” said Prabhakar Rao, joint commissioner of police, CCS.

Now, Ashok Kumar became too possessive and started harassing the woman and her family members by restricting their movements. But the woman and her family members strongly opposed his ways and cancelled the alliance. This made Kumar bear a grudge against the woman and her family members.

He created fake email IDs in the name of the woman and sent obscene content and pictures of her, to her relatives, some doctors and friends to damage her character and reputation.

The woman and her family members lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police and said Ashok Kumar was the suspect.

During investigation, cyber crime police found out that Ashok Kumar was the culprit and seized his mobile phones and detained him. During interrogation, he confessed to his offence. Police arrested him and produced him in court.
