HYDERABAD: The Union government’s  decision to encourage roundthe- clock business with the proposed Model Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Services) Act will help enhance the quality of nightlife in the city, but with some reservations.

With the government allowing  malls and hotels to run business throughout the night, city residents will be eagar to spend more time on the streets during night hours. The new rule will be implementedfrom January 1, 2017. However, some hotels are  skeptical about the relaxation. “I don’t think the rule may boost business as people generally stop coming to hotels after midnight,” said Hari, general manager of Hotel Basera at SD Road in Secunderabad.

The Hyderabad-Secunderabad  Hotel Owner’s Association is analysing the pros and cons of the new rule. “We have to look into the new rules and assess its impact and repercussions,” said V S Raju, head of the association. There are apprehensions that the relaxation may spike crime rate. However, police officials seemed confident of tackling the menace. “With the new rule, naturally police patrolling will also increase,” said Falaknuma ACP Md Abdul Bari.

People who are likely to be affected by the new rule are the dosa and idli bandis running business notably in Madhapur, Gachibowli areas.
