HYDERABAD: A two-year-old girl suffering from swine flu died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital. She was admitted to the hospital on January 26. With this, the number of swine flu deaths have gone up to 7 in the month of January.
Six more patients are undergoing treatment for swine flu at the hospital. From August 2016 till January 30, 222 people tested positive for the flu. On Monday, 14 samples sent to Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM) tested positive for flu.
The last case where an infant, a 10-month-old boy, suffering from the flu died, was recorded on Friday. Another three-month-old girl too was infected and undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city. Her condition is learnt to be stable.
The family members of the girl who died on Tuesday reside at Rasoolopura in Secunderabad. While they were given prophylactic medicines three days ago, locals fear that the flu might spread in the area which is highly congested.
“If it spreads, many would be infected. A camp should be organised to make people aware about the infection,” urged Shaik Nayeem, a resident.
A team from the health department visited the locality to take stock of the situation. District Medical and Health Officers (DMHO) in the state were directed to focus on all suspicious cases.
