HYDERABAD: As operation and maintenance of sewerage treatment plants (STPs) established for treatment of polluted water bodies in twin cities turning out to be a costly affair, GHMC on a pilot basis has proposed to adopt Natural Self Sustainable System (NSSS) for treating polluted Upparpally lake in Rajendranagar circle.

GHMC feels that maintaining STPs is an extensive task. Besides if there is any breakdown in STPs, they require repairs at regular intervals, in addition to which it incurs huge bills towards power consumption.
In this connection, GHMC invited experienced agencies or firms to give their quotations for rejuvenation and restoration of polluted Upparpally lake, including treating sewage and industrial effluents entering into the lake, by adopting one-time NSSS system without consuming electricity.SE (Projects), South Zone, Dattupath said that the proposed system does not require the installation of STP and works on bioremediation which is commonly found in western countries.

Presently, Hyderabad Golf Club is using the technology successfully in treating the lake in their premises, he added.

MAUD minister KT Rama Rao gave a green signal last month to adopt NSSS system for Upparpally lake. Dattupanth said that as many as three firms have responded to the proposals, Techselah Products and Solutions Private Ltd, Bengaluru, Vision Earth Pvt Ltd, Mumbai and J M Enviro Technologies Private Limited, New Delhi.
