HYDERABAD: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board has failed to place garbage bins in colonies forcing residents to dump the garbage on open spaces. The board had identified a number of spots as main points where the garbage bins were supposed to be placed. However, it has been five months now but the bins have not been distributed to the colonies. The bins are still lying in the workshop.

The bins were supposed to be distributed in each elected ward and each ward was supposed to be given 18 bins. However, only five garbage bins were distributed for each ward in Cantonment area.Inconvenienced, residents have on several occasions complained of streets being strewn with garbage but no action has been taken yet. The municipal workers come to the colonies once in two days.Speaking to Express, A Sujatha Reddy, a resident of Mudfort, said: “Residents are dumping garbage in open spaces. We are unable to come out of our houses, thanks to the stench.”

Another resident of Rasoolpura, C Kalyani, said, “We have registered several complaints in the past but no action from SCB officials has been taken.”When contacted, SCB sanitation superintendent Balakrishna told Express that the board had already decided to distribute the garbage bins in under wards. “We ordered 100 garbage bins but received only 50. We also ordered for five new vehicles that will be used to lift garbage every day from the SCB areas.”
