12 tonnes of stale sheep, goat offals seized in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Golconda zone Task Force sleuths, along with the H-FAST team and Mangalhat police, seized about 12 tonnes of spoiled sheep and goat offal worth approximately Rs 10 lakh and arrested one person during a raid at a store named A to Z Sheep & Goat Offal, located in Aman Nagar Colony of Mangalhat.

The arrested was identified as store manager Rafi Ahmed (52) from Tolichowki. The store owner, Mohd Afroz, is currently absconding. Earlier, a case was registered against the store owner at Mangalhat police station and GHMC had imposed a fine for storing and selling stale meat.

According to police, the accused were allegedly procuring stale and spoiled offal at low prices from wholesale markets and storing it for long periods in deep freezers and plastic tubs filled with stagnant water to delay decomposition and suppress foul smell. The stored meat was later supplied to marriage functions, events and hotels. The police seized large quantities of stale and spoiled offal, including paya (trotters), heads, brains, kidneys, liver and other internal parts of sheep and goats.

A police official told TNIE that the accused procured the stale meat from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and other states for low price. A case has been registered and a probe is underway.
