Home guard ends life over ‘casteist remarks’ in Telangana's Nagarkurnool district

HYDERABAD: A 45-year-old home guard died by suicide on Wednesday, allegedly due to work pressure from senior police officials at Kodair police station in Nagarkurnool district.

The deceased, Thirugudu Bayyanna, a resident of Lachchu Naik Thanda in Kollapur mandal, had been serving as a Home Guard since 2006. He allegedly consumed pesticide near the cattle market area at Achampet after sharing a voice message with a friend, claiming he had been scolded with casteist remarks by his superiors and was allegedly under work pressure.

Locals shifted him to a hospital in Achampet, from where he was referred to the hovernment hospital in Nagarkurnool, where doctors declared him dead.

A case has been registered under section 194 of BNSS and launched an investigation. When TNIE attempted to contact Nagarkurnool police, they could not be reached for comment.
