2009 is the ‘Year of the Ox’ as classified in the HSIA calendar. The element analysis points to a combination of earth with earth element, which indicates a year of harmony and peace in international relations. The peace process will set in and the world will gradually move towards harmony from turbulence.

The Year 2009 is predicted to be a year which will have a new beginning in terms of many new leaders consolidating their position and power and focusing on strengthening international ties and economic development. The year will be focused on protecting planet earth. Matters relating to the earth, including improving agriculture. New methods of housing, construction and real estate will be given greater importance.

Carrying out an annual audit is an essential part of New Year celebrations in the East.

The luck of a place changes over a period of time as the energies keep getting transformed. Hence the home or office should be re-aligned and checked for blockages. The feng shui of the place should be re-audited to ensure that all energy blocks are cleared.

This year the forecast based on the interaction of the five elements with the day, year and hour analysis predicts a year which will bring fire disasters. We can also expect further cooling of the weather. This would mean a threat of severe snow storm with freezing weather conditions in many parts of the earth.

The clash of the animal sign ox which is an earth element and sheep, which is also earth element, predicts a serious clash which could lead to earthquake, building collapses and sudden landslides.

The property market will revive. The months from Feb to June end will see a boost. The stock market in the year 2009 is expected to remain average.

Variations may happen although it will definitely show signs of stability and calm as days go by. The year is supportive to hi-tech and IT industries.

Although it may not be buoyant like the previous year in terms of transactions, slightly lower profitability is anticipated. Industries which will see more profit this year and perform well are wood and fire element based. Fashion, textile, publications, furniture, environment protection, entertainment and finance will have a good year. Property, real estate, hotels, mining and insurance will have lot of competition and business will be fairly profitable. Shipping, communication, soft drinks and spa industries will have to be satisfied with meagre business prospects.

Most importantly the already much affected airline industry will continue to be bogged down with problems. Airline business is in the category of fire elements and in 2009, there is an absence of the fire element in the elemental combination. Hence it indicates troubled times and possibility of air mishaps.

Those born in the year of the Horse will have a very sociable year and opportunity to settle down as “Romance star” exits. Those born in the Year of the Pig will find great opportunities through travel.

However those born in the year of the Sheep will have a year of obstacles and need to be strong to defend themselves. For many of the animal signs health needs attention, especially related to diabetic, gastric and circulatory problems.

The north, northeast and west sectors of the compass directions are worst afflicted hence houses with important rooms or main doors in these sectors need proper feng shui protection for the Year 2009.

In the year of the ox, we can expect issues getting settled through mediation and progress. Hence 2009 will be a “Year of Opportunities.” Wishing readers a very happy and prosperous 2008.
