KOCHI: Though the CPI general secretary A B Bardhan termed PDP as a communal party, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has once again made it clear that the PDP is a `secular’ party.

Inaugurating the LDF website here on Saturday, Pinarayi said that the PDP couldn’t be kept away on the ground of its extremist policies in the past.

Pinarayi said that the situation in the state had changed a lot. The sections and parties like Kerala Janapaksham Party led by former BJP leader K Raman Pillai had extended support to the LDF in the elections. Earlier the LDF had opposed the policies of Madhani but after his jail term, he had abandoned his extremist policies and joined the secular mainstream, Pinarayi said.

``When Madhani was imprisoned for years without trial, all the parties except the RSS and BJP reacted against the injustice. It is the duty of the LDF to attract those coming out of communal parties to the secular side,’’ he said.

Pinarayi said that though there were widespread complaints that the Central investigating agencies, which probed the cases of terrorist attack, wilfully targeted the members of Muslim community, the investigations into such incidents by the state police did not give any room for such complaints.

``In the wake of some quarters spreading rumours and false reports about the LDF, the newly launched website, made with the back-up of free software organisation, will be helpful in countering such charges,’’ Pinarayi said.

All the details of the LDF candidates will be available in Enlish on www.ldf.
