KOCHI: The Metro Film Society will be screening the movie ‘Raamanam’ by M P Sukumaran Nair on Sunday. The film, which has been adapted from the novel ‘Smaraka Silakal’ by Punnathil Kunjabdulla, is about the journey of an individual from the narrow confines of religion into the wide world of universal love. The story goes thus. Arakkal Thangal adopts the orphaned son of Neeli, a destitute. Thangal has a daughter of the same age as the boy- Pookkunji. Pookkunji learns Nangyar Koothu and decides to perform it at the nearby temple.

Meanwhile the Babri Masjid gets demolished. The temple committee goes back on its word and denies Neeli permission to perform Koothu. But Neeli decides to go ahead with the performance. The rest of the film is about the repercussions of the event.

The movie will be screened at the Sangeetha theatre at 9.30 am.
