KOCHI: “Pappukutty Bhagavathar has a special place in my life for I have learnt the basics of music from him,” said singer K J Yesudas at a function organised to honour the veteran singer who turned 100 on Tuesday.

Yesudas said he has good memories of those days, when his father Augustine Joseph and Pappu Bhagavathar used to act together in dramas.

Pappu Bhagavathar, popularly known as  ‘Kerala Saigal’, showed no signs of fatigue and sang the evergreen Hindi song ‘Soja Rajakumari’ to enthral everyone who attended the function.

The programme was organised by the P J Chariyan Foundation in conjunction with the Changampuzha Samskarika Kendram, M K Sanu Foundation, Smrithydharaa and the Chavara Cultural Centre. Union Minister of Food and Consumer Affairs K V Thomas inaugurated the event. M K Sanu, M V  Devan, Jose Thettayil, K M Roy participated.
