Bringing back the memories of deep bonding irrespective of communities they belong, people in Tripunithura celebrated ‘Thulam festival’ at Sree Poornathrayeesa temple on Thursday.

Hundreds of devotees gathered for the ‘Karpoora deepam’ ritual, observed to  commemorate the fire incident in which a large portions of the temple was gutted in 1921.

The festival began with the morning Siveli (divine procession) accompanied by five caparisoned tuskers and ‘pancharimelam’ headed by Sadanam Divakaran Marar.

The camphor required for the ‘Deeparadhana’ and ‘Chuttuvilakku’ was brought  from the Canara Bank premises near the Thripunithura bus stand in a  procession. The entire expenses of the festival was earlier borne by Sree Poornathrayeesa Vilasam Bank, owned by the erstwhile Maharaja of Cochin. The bank was later taken over by Canara Bank. Thereafter, the festival continued to be celebrated with the aid of the bank.

The ritual was followed by ‘Deeparadhana’, ‘Chuttuvilakku’ with ‘Karpoora deepam’ at the temple.
