A mobile app to locate liquor stores

Express News Service

Alcohol comes with the statutory warning ‘injurious to health’. However, tipplers find themselves at sea while trying to locate liquor stores at unknown destinations. It seems technology has come out with an elegant solution for them.

A team of Young techies at a Kochi-based company has developed a mobile application to find liquor stores. It would show the route maps to the store and even alternate routes. Developed on the android platform and named ‘Liquor Store Finder’, the application can be downloaded from Google Play to all android phones which spot OS versions from 1.6.

“We are not for alcoholism, but trying to help those who are in need. We developed it as a result of rising demand, especially from tourists. It was tested in Kottayam and Alappuzha and was successful. It can be applied all over the world,” said Arunshah Felim, head of mobile division at Aabasoft Solutions. “Nearly 300 people have downloaded the software within a week,” he added.

The application lists foreign liquor outlets, including 338 under the Beverages Corporation, 5,000 odd toddy shops and other liquor stores.

However, one cannot locate bars. “Most of the big hotels are attached with a bar. So we have avoided bar locations in the application,” said Arunshah. The application can provide details of 10 locations within a 50 km radius.
