The Gujarat handicrafts exhibition organised by the Gujarat Emporium  will be held here from Friday at Women’s Association Hall near TDM Hall. The  expo which will run till November 17 is being sponsored by the Union Ministry of Textiles.

The exhibition will showcase handicraft products from Gujarat as well as eight other states.

Mayor Tony Chammany will inaugurate the expo organised with an aim to improve the livelihood of craftsmen and handloom weavers. Traditional costumes and stone ornaments collected from the producers from nine states will be displayed at the expo. The highlights will include white metal ornaments made out of precious and semi-precious stones, 22-ct gold covered ornaments and Gujarati bangles made out of Australian diamonds. The show will also have a horde of leather bags, purses and Kholapuri chappals too.

Poolkari and Lucknow designed saris will also available in the show.

Wooden needles, channapatna toys, and terracotta products from Kolkata will too be sold. A live demo show aimed at teaching the visitors the nuances of handicraft will also be held.
