Engg students develop sand separator

Express News Service

KOCHI: Three engineering students of Ilahia Engineering College,  Muvattupuzha, developed a sand separator which will benefit the construction industry.

The new mechanism will separate the sand for plastering and concrete works. The new sand deparator introduced by Sand Guru India can be fixed to classifiers which removes the clay content in rock sand and separates it into two grades.

The sand separator has been designed by third-year mechanical engineering students Mathews Sebastian, Mahin K M and Aboobacker Abin.

The students who made the sand separator said that classifiers which are being used currently wash the sand and convert it into single size grain only. Then it will be manually filtered and used separately for plastering and concreting. Whereas the new sand deparator cleans the rock sand and brings out separately for plastering and concreting. It enhances the quality of the rock sand and saves time and money for the builder. The sand deparator was developed through continuous research and development. They were guided by engineers Mahin Aboobacker and Robin.

It costs `27 lakhs for the sand separator which will be commercially produced and sold by Sand Guru India, a division of Concept Engineering which has been in the Crusher Machineries industry.

The first unit was inaugurated by M M Ali, managing director, Cochin Crusher Owners Consortium. The sand separator will certainly be an advantage for the construction industry and crusher units and ensures quality in construction, Sebastian Mathew, managing director  of Sand Guru India said.
