Kaithapram to Perform at General Hospital

Express News Service

KOCHI: The inmates of Ernakulam Government General Hospital will experience the healing power of music when Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri, himself an exponent of music therapy, performs at the hospital on Wednesday as part of ‘Arts and Medicine’ project of Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF).

The award-winning composer and lyricist will render a mesmerising performance along with his son Deepankuran Kaithapram, who is also a playback singer and music director.

“I have a profound belief in the therapeutic power of music. By listening to the soothing ragas rendered in a mellifluous voice, the oxygen content in the blood increases, easing hypertension and pain,” Kaithapram said. “The Biennale Foundation is doing an excellent service to the people by undertaking this unique project,” he added.Kaithapram is the managing trustee and chairman of the Swathy Thirunal Kalakendra Music Therapy Foundation, which gives training to students on music therapy.

The musical programme is the 23rd in the ‘Arts and Medicine’ series. The project, launched in February this year, is being conducted in association with Mehboob Memorial Orchestra and with guidance from Iva Fattorini, Chair of Global Arts and Medicine Institute and district administration.
