Dish TV Launches Zing Digital

KOCHI: The phase 4 and 4 of digitalisation of cable TV network in India will cover around seven crore houses in the country in two years, said Dish TV chief executive officer R C Venkateish. At present the cable TV market has six crore customers, out of which 4.5 crore are in the digital space, he added. He was speaking on the sidelines of the launch of Zing Digital-a customised Malayalam DTH brand to cater to the needs of Malayalam viewers by Dish TV in Kochi the other day.

“Zing Digital was launched in Bengali, Oriya, Telugu, Tamil and Malayam. We will be launching few more regional channels soon. The average revenue per user has increased from ` 167 per month last year to `180 in the first quarter in this financial yea. Dish TV has a market share of 27 per cent in the Digital Television sector,” he told ‘Express’.

He added that there are 40 lakh homes in Kerala which are yet to shift to digital from analog. “In Kerala we have a market share of 24 per cent. But with the launch of Zing we want to double the share in one year.”

“Our consumer demographic study has indicated that large segment of TV viewers from medium and small town prefer content from their own region. Zing will address this need and provide maximum available regional content to viewers,” Venkateish said. Zing offers over 150 channels and services including 16 Malayalam channels and services at `99 per month.
