KOCHI: The Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) and Research Centre will send a medical team to the quake-hit Nepal for relief operations.
The mission includes 60 specialist medical officers, paramedics and volunteers; three mobile medical facilities with cardiac ICU, operation theatre and ventilator; two ambulances; and medical supplies. The mission is expected to be airlifted from Kochi to the Himalayan country.
The mobile medical facility is equipped with tele-medicine unit, ultrasonography, X-Ray radiography, ventilator, minor operation theatre, delivery room, electrocardiography, light microscopy, digital photography and bio-chemical testing with a semi-auto analyser, besides a dental care facility.
The medical specialists are from the departments of orthopaedics, general medicine, general surgery, paediatrics, emergency medicine, gynaecology and radiology.
Immediate Aid for Survivors
Mata Amritanandamayi, the patron of the hospital, has directed the ‘Math’ to send 50 tonnes of wheat and 2,000 sets of warm clothes as immediate aid for survivors of the devastating earthquake.
The Mata Amritandamayi Math has been in the forefront of providing relief to people hit by natural calamities across the country in the past - earthquake-hit Bhuj in 2001, tsunami victims in 2004 in Kerala and the southern parts of Tamil Nadu, Mumbai flood victims in 2005, Bihar flood victims in 2008, victims of West Bengal cyclone Aiyla in 2009, flood victims in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka in 2009, Kedarnath landslide victims in 2013 and Kashmir flood victims in 2014.
