KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Monday dismissed the bail plea of Fr Edwin Figarez, a former priest with the Lourdes Matha Church, Puthenvelikkara, who is the accused in a case related to raping a minor girl.
Justice Sunil Thomas observed that the victim was only 14 years old and the considering the status of the petitioner in the society and also the present stage of the investigation of the case, the bail was denied.
The petitioner, who is accused of raping the girl for over three months, was arrested on December 8, last year.
The counsel of the priest submitted that he was fully cooperating with the investigation.
