Express News Service

KOCHI: Uber has launched a new product in Kochi which allows six passengers to travel in the same car. This segment will have cars like Innova, Ertiga, Tavera, Lodgy, Evalia, etc. Unlike cities like Bangalore and Delhi, Uber has had only 1 option in Kochi - classic 4 seater UberGO, a release said here.

“We are launching UberXL in Kochi, another transportation option for riders which can seat upto six people. This makes it a great mobility option for family outings and also for travellers with lots of luggage travelling to the airport or railway stations,” said Nitin Nair, General Manager, Uber Kerala.

The pricing for UberXL is base fare - Rs 50, per km - Rs 13 and per min - Re 1. Uber has been an attractive option for Kochites since its launch in November, 2014. The existing product UberGO is priced at base fare - Rs 35, per km - Rs 7 and per min - Re 1. Last month, Uber announced the launch of two new product innovations - ‘Dial an Uber’ and ‘Request a Ride for Others’. The two new product features aims to make it easier for riders and their friends and families to get around the city, even if they haven’t downloaded the Uber app.

The products were designed to offer simple and more convenient ways to book a ride, these India-first innovations are testament to Uber’s focus on using its technological prowess to make mobility reliable and accessible for everyone.

Many users in India, especially in non-metros, face hurdles, including, poor connectivity and penetration, when using an app to book a ride. ‘Dial an Uber’, conceptualised keeping in mind this category of riders, was rolled out in Kochi, along with Nagpur, Guwahati, and Jodhpur, “making it possible for everyone to have access to reliable low cost uberGO rides,” a release said.
