Cyclone Ockhi: No ‘Vasantholsavam’ fete this year

In the wake of the trail of death and destruction caused by Cyclone Ockhi in the district, 'Vasantholsavam', the nine-day annual programme organised by the DTPC has been cancelled.

KOCHI: In the wake of the trail of death and destruction caused by Cyclone Ockhi in the district, 'Vasantholsavam', the nine-day annual programme organised by the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) and the district administration to celebrate Christmas and New Year, will not be held this year. It is to  mourn the loss of lives in the natural calamity the authorities  decided to  whittle down the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Vijayakumar S, DTPC secretary, said a one-day event will be held in its place. "Instead of the nine-day programme, a one-day event will be held. We have not decided on the dates. A meeting will be held shortly which will take a decision in this regard. Most probably the event will be staged at the Durbar Hall(DH) Ground," he said.The Marine Drive Ground had previously been the venue for 'Vasantholsavam'  which featured cultural programmes and competitions.
