Cusat students injured in road accident recovering

According to the Varapuzha Police, the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle, which hit the car and the bike coming from the opposite direction.

KOCHI: The condition of Gudiya S Lal, 22, Athira Sasikumar, 22, and Athulya Nair, 22, students of Cusat who have been undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in Monday’s tragic accident at Varapuzha here is stable, said hospital authorities.

One of the injured students underwent a surgery on Tuesday. While it is yet to be ascertained what caused the accident, in which four persons lost their lives,  primary investigation points to fault on the part of the bus driver.

Cusat students Akshay Sasikumar, 20, of Cherambra, Malappuram, and Jijisha Jafar, 23, of Edakkara, Nilambur; and Infopark employees Hareendra Shankar, 27, of Cheriyapally, North Paravoor, and Kiran Babu, 25, of Pallikkara died after a bus rammed into the car and bike on which they were travelling on the Varapuzha bridge on Monday early morning.

According to the Varapuzha Police, the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle, which hit the car and the bike coming from the opposite direction. Hareendra Shankar and Kiran were travelling on the bike.

Meanwhile, the Motor Vehicle Department has decided to suspend the licence of Vipin Raj, the driver of the school bus who is in judicial custody. The MVD will also slap a fine of `5,000 on the school authorities for using the bus for purposes other than transportation of students.
