SNC Regatta Trophy: ASW wins 4th back-to-back title

The boat Pulling Regatta is one of the most prestigious Naval sports activities conducted by the Navy on 27 feet-long ‘Whaler’ boats, with a crew of five pullers and one coxswain.​

KOCHI: The Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) School and  Diving School on Friday continued its winning streak in the Kochi Area Pulling Regatta organised by the Southern Naval Command (SNC), picking up the Regatta Trophy for the fourth straight year.

Team INS GARUDA finished runner up in the keenly contested competition which was held under five different categories over a course of 1.6 Km in the Ernakulam channel with Venduruthy-Vikrant Bridge being the starting point. As many as six teams from all the units of SNC Kochi participated in the Regatta.
Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief(FOC-IN-C), Southern Naval Command Vice Admiral A R Karve,  who was the chief guest, handed over the prizes to the winners and runner up team in the presence of a large gathering of Naval personnel.

Prizes for winners of Kayaking and Canoeing Championship for the year 2016-17 which was held on January 4 and 5 were also presented on the occasion in which INS Garuda was declared the winner. Besides, the Vice Admiral presented the Godavari Trophy to INS Venduruthy & Navigation and Direction School for securing the overall maximum points from  the sporting activities held last year.

The boat Pulling Regatta is one of the most prestigious Naval sports activities conducted by the Navy on 27 feet-long ‘Whaler’ boats, with a crew of five pullers and one coxswain.

The competition is also a signature event of the Navy, signifying the highest standards of physical and mental application, team work, coordination and sustained hard work.
