KOCHI: The Sree Parvathy Devi Temple at Thiruvairanikulam opened for ‘darshan’ on Wednesday, the Thiruvathira Day of the Malayalam month of Dhanu. The ‘nadathurappu’ followed the procession bearing the sacred jewels to be adorned by the deity reaching the temple from the Akavoor Mana. The opening ceremonies started at 8pm after the arrival.
The procession with the ‘thiruvabharanam’ had started from the Akavoor Mana at 4pm. The jewels were received by temple trustees, including president Akavoor Kunjanujan Namboothiripad, secretary P G Sudhakaran, vice-president N Srikumar and joint secretary Unnikrishnan Madavana, from Akavoor Narayanan Namboothiripad, the head of the Akavoor Mana. The eternal flame from the Sri Ramaswamy Temple was passed on to the torch in the vehicle bearing the thiruvabharanam, before the procession started off to Thiruvairanikulam temple.
The arrival of the chariot and procession accompanied by thousands with customary rituals and ‘kavadi’ started off the elaborate rituals at the temple.
The rituals were led by Cherumuk priest Vasudevan Akkithirippad in the presence of representatives from the three mythologically-related ‘manas’ and the presence of the mythological ‘Pushpini’, a close friend of the deity. Edanad Allimangalam family member Thangamani, who takes on the role of ‘Pushpini’, called out to make sure the required representatives from the manas were present. Soon after, the Parvathy Devi ‘nadathurappu’ happened, bringing to end a year’s wait for darshan.
