KOCHI: A subtle protest is brewing in the minds of youths in the country, and the enormous support I received in the social media before announcement of the awards was part of it, said state award winning actor Vinayakan. Vinayakan told reporters here on Thursday the protest could either be ‘against the system or against certain individuals.’ “I cannot say precisely against whom the youth are protesting. It is the duty of the authorities to figure it out,” he said, referring to the growing unrest in the wake of issues like the JNU controversy.
The actor said existence of the world is based on ‘love,’ and condemned the recent moral policing incident at Marine Drive. “The world is existing on the concept of love. A loveless society will witness an increase in crimes. So, denying people their basic rights in the name of moral policing is not fair,” he said. According to Vinayakan, personal experiences helped him portray Ganga with perfection, the award-winning character in Kammattipaadam.
“I used to live in a similar area in a slum near the KSRTC bus stand. I know the hardships of people living there - their little moments of joy and unity. The only additional effort I had to make was for the physical transformation from the teenaged Ganga to the middle-aged one,” he said. On the prospects of winning a national award for Ganga, Vinayakan said awards were never his target. “I am neither planning to become selective,” he said.
