Two drown in sea near Vypeen

Two persons, including a 15-year-old, drowned while taking bath in the sea off Pazhangad beach near Vypeen on Friday evening.

KOCHI: Two persons, including a 15-year-old, drowned while taking bath in the sea off Pazhangad beach near Vypeen on Friday evening.The deceased have been identified as Vivek,28, son of Velayudhan, Puthalath House, Nayarambalam, and Jishnu, 15, son of Sunil Kumar, Azhikakathe House, Kunju Thai, Paravoor.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 4.30 pm when Vivek, his brother Vikash and Jishnu were bathing in the sea. They were trapped in the waves after venturing into the deeper portion of the sea. The trio was swept way by strong undercurrents.

Though the people on the beach tried to rescue them, they failed in their attempt. Later, they informed the local residents and a search operation was carried out using fishing boats. Vikas was rescued by the fishermen and was shifted to a hospital.

However, the bodies of the other two could be traced only after hours-long rescue operation. The police and the Fire and Rescue Service personnel also joined the fishermen in the rescue operation.
