KOCHI: The Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Thursday ordered the CBI to file a fresh report on the death of spiritual leader Qazi C M Abdulla Moulavi. Qazi was found dead on February 15, 2010, on Chembarika beach in Kasargod. The court’s decision came in the wake of a petition filed by Human Rights Organisation of Kerala president Omar Farooq that he had some crucial information regarding the death of Qazi.

Earlier, the CBI had filed a closure report in the case after it could not find any evidence to suggest that it was a homicide. However, when the court decided to hear Qazi’s family members and the CBI before accepting the closure report, Omar Farooq approached the court requesting to implead him in the case. Omar claimed that an autorickshaw driver  Ashraf had made crucial revelations related to the death of Qazi to him and he has in his possession some important evidence related to the case.

The court asked the CBI to verify the matter and file a fresh report before November 22. The court will consider the case on the same date. The CBI in its closure report claimed that three forensic experts had examined the possibility of homicide behind Moulavi’s death.

But experts suggest a stronger possibility of suicide than homicide. Similarly, a three-member medical board was also constituted. It also ruled out the possibility of murder, according to the CBI. The case is being probed by a CBI special team from Mumbai. Meanwhile,  the family members of Qazi contradicted the claims of the CBI and they believe Qazi was murdered and his body abandoned at Chembarika beach.
