KOCHI: Mayor Soumini Jain on Thursday called for an exclusive policy which promotes the construction of green and energy efficient buildings - aka zero carbon buildings having zero net energy consumption or zero net carbon emissions - across the state by providing subsidy and tax benefits.
Jain was addressing a workshop on zero carbon buildings for the city organised by the Corporation in association with the World Resources Institute India (WRI India) here. The workshop attended by stakeholders held discussions on creating a road map and action plan for all buildings to achieve zero carbon potential. “Already the construction activities in the city have reached saturation point.
So it is time, the experts should think of converting the existing buildings into energy saving structures,” she told the stakeholders including developers and architects.“ The lack of planning has already affected the climate and led to climate change. Even the Corporation’s plan fund utilisation has had a spillover effect on climate change,” the Mayor said.
