Local train derails near Kochi, no casualties

KOCHI: A mainline electric multiple unit (MEMU) train bound for Ernakulam from Palakkad, derailed at Kalamassery station near here Thursday.

No one was injured and rail traffic was not disrupted, a Southern Railway spokesperson said.

Two wheels of the train jumped off the rails when it was entering the Kalamassery station, 13 km from Ernakulam, the spokesperson said.

Re-railing work would soon begin, he said adding the pairing train from Ernakulam to Palakkad was cancelled.
