MUMBAI: President of Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) Sanjay Nirupam, on Thursday, offered to resign from his post, taking responsibility for party’s poor show at the Municipal elections in the city.
The current trends show that the party would slip from its second position to that of the distant third failing to hold many of its seats that it had won the last time.
“Sensing the situation I’ve already sent my resignation to the party leadership. I take responsibility for the party’s poor performance,” Nirupam said at a press conference at his residence in the Western Suburb of Andheri.
He, however, also blamed other senior party leaders in the city for the party’s loss.
“Many of the leaders wanted to defeat Nirupam. But, the party got defeated due to their acts,” Nirupam said without naming anyone.
“Party’s national leadership too knew the situation. They tried to intervene. But, the undisciplined leaders from the city did not obey them,” Nirupam said with an obvious indication towards former union minister Gurudas Kamat.
“Party leadership will have to take action against the undisciplined party leaders from the city,” Nirupam added.
