KOLLAM: An astro-turf hockey stadium, the first of its kind in the State, will be constructed in Kollam at a cost of Rs 9 cr as part of the National Games. Announcing the preparations for the National Games-2010, Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran said that administrative sanction had been accorded to the construction of the hockey stadium with international standards.
The plan and design have been prepared and the tender proceedings will begin soon. The gallery of the stadium will have a seating capacity of 5,000 people. A total of 4.78 acres of land under the possession of the Ports Department will be handed over to the Sports Department for the construction of the stadium.
