THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Singer K.J.Yesudas has advised parents of children participating in competitions not to question the verdict of judges.
Yesudas, while inaugurating the valedictory function of the Kerala State School Kalolsavam here on Monday said that it was not wise to question the judgments in courts.
The maestro also narrated two incidents. The first incident was when he was a judge for a music competition. Singers Radhika and Sujatha had took part in the competition.
Both where equally good. But, he felt that there was a very small mistake in Sujatha’s rendering. So, he gave Radhika the first prize.
Sujatha or her parents never complained about the judgement. ‘’Now look at the heights Sujatha has achieved as a playback singer,’’ Yesudas said.
He also reminded the audience that on two occasions at AIR music competitions, once in Madras and another in Kozhikode, the judges found that there were no male singers worth a prize.
On both occasions he was also a competitor. He said he had never questioned the judgements.
On another occasion when great Carnatic musician M.L.Vasanthakumari was the judge, he could not win the competition.
However, later in his life he could sing a duet with her.
If he had won the prize in that competition, he would not have got that opportunity, as he would have to be her disciple, he said.
