THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Union Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned Rs.2.86 crore for developing the Entertainment and Children’s Traffic Park at Asramam in Kollam as a tourist destination.

The Director of Tourism had submitted a proposal in this regard to the Government to develop a portion of Asramam Maidan into a planned entertainment area and children’s park which will serve as a permanent entertainment hub for the tourist as well as the local people.

  The Union Government had released Rs 2.29 crore as first instalment which had been credited to the Treasury Savings Bank account operated by the Director of Tourism. The working group on plan and schemes has accorded administrative sanction to the project.

  The project will have components such as compound wall and gateway, six mandapams, restroom complex, open-air auditorium, toilet block, dashing/bombing car, family train with diesel engine, landscaping and allied works and sinkages and dustbins.

The development work will be executed through SIDCO and will be completed within a period of 24 months.
