THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K.Ravindranathan Nair alias Achani Ravi (General Pictures Ravi) has been selected for the J.C.Daniel Award for the year 2008. This was announced by Cultural Affairs Minister M.A.Baby here on Friday.

 The award carries a sum of Rs one lakh, a specially-designed plaque and a citation.

 A jury headed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan, comprising K.G.George, K.R.Mohanan and KPAC Lalitha, selected Ravi for the award.

 The jury observed that Ravindranathan Nair produced films without bothering about its marketing possibilities. The films produced by him giving importance to social and artistic values had qualitatively transformed Malayalam cinema, the jury pointed out.

 These films had raised the standards of Malayalam cinema at national and international levels.

He had notable contributions in the fields of film distribution and film exhibition. His contributions to social and cultural fields were also notable, the jury said.

 Baby said that the award ceremony would be held after knowing the convenience of the awardee and Chief Minister V.S.Achuthanandan.
